We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Trainee Product Developer to join our dynamic Product Development team. In this role, you will support the creation, development, and improvement of products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and align with our brand’s vision. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about food, eager to learn, and looking to grow within a fast-paced environment.

As a Trainee Product Developer, you will be a part of the global Product Development department, managed by the Product Development Manager. You will work with global operations to develop and improve products both locally and globally.

The Trainee Product Developer will be responsible for supporting the Products team in creating and developing new products, as well as improving existing products to meet recipe briefs on time. The responsibilities of a Trainee Product Developer include concept creation, ingredient sourcing, recipe development, and management of the HQ development kitchen.

You will need to have a high focus on quality and an eye for detail to help calculate nutritional and allergen information for products, as well as assist in the creation of quality and workflow documents to ensure high standards are met across the stores. You will thrive in an organised kitchen environment, where ingredients are stored neatly and appropriately for efficient sample making. Ultimately, a great Trainee Product Developer should be a true foodie—creative, curious, and able to deliver high-quality work, often within tight timelines, while working well within our brand pillars.


Key Responsibilities

  • Product Development: Assist in the development of new products from concept to launch, including idea generation, ingredient sourcing, recipe formulation and help to refine workflows and processes to enhance quality, taste and consistency.  
  • Kitchen Management: Manage and oversee the HQ JOE development kitchen, ensuring that ingredients and equipment are properly stored and maintained. Manage regular ingredient orders for recipe testing and development.
  • Tasting Coordination : Organize and manage tasting sessions for the products team and other stakeholders to facilitate internal reviews, feedback, and recipe approvals. 
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all ingredients and final products for NPD/EPD projects are stress-tested under the conditions BTC and can uphold quality in preparation for sign-off with Operations and Compliance. 
  • Product Implementation: Ensure all ingredients and final products for NPD/EPD projects are stress tested under the conditions BTC and can uphold quality in preparation for sign off with Operations and Compliance. 
  • Nutritional and Allergens: Support the calculation of nutritional values and allergens alongside development to ensure products comply with industry standards and regulations. 
  • Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, competitor products, and customer preferances to contribute innovative ideas to the development process. 


Qualifications 

Education: A degree in Food Science, Nutrition, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Experience: 2-3 years of experience in the food service industry is ideal. 

Skills: Solid ability to taste, evaluate, and articulate flavors.

Language: Fluent in writing and speaking in English
